Leading Up To The NFL Super Bowl

NFL Super BowlThe NFL Super Bowl is by far and large the biggest sporting event in sports.  There are millions of people who tune in to watch the Super Bowl every year. There is millions of dollars invested in commercials, half-game shows, analysis, and many other aspects of the game.  Every year there is controversy between sports analysts and fans of who they think is going to win the Super Bowl.

This year’s Super Bowl is a very interesting matchup between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.  Any average NFL fan knows it is a rematch of super bowl XLII which some consider being one of the best super bowls ever, and almost anyone would agree that it is the biggest upset of all time. The Patriots were on their way to a 19-0 season, when the Giants made one of the most memorable plays ever. The score was 14-10 Patriots and the Giants had the ball on their own 44 yard line facing a 3rd down and 5. Manning (The Giants quarterback) had two guys hanging all over him right after the ball was snapped. NFL Super BowlHe somehow broke the tackles and threw a high arcing pass which the virtually unknown wide receiver David Tyree pinned against his helmet and made arguably the best catch in NFL history. Four plays later, Manning threw a 13 yard touchdown to wide receiver Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds left which clinched the game.

Let’s review how the Patriots and Giants got to super bowl XLVI. The Patriots went 13-3 in the regular season and won 45-10 versus the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. In the AFC championship they defeated the Baltimore Ravens 23-20 after a dropped touchdown by Lee Evans and a missed 32 yard field goal by Billy Cundiff to end the game. The Giants ended the regular season with an average 9-7 record, and had to win the last two games of the season to even have a chance of advancing to the postseason. In the wildcard game they annihilated the Atlanta Falcons 24-2. Then, in the divisional round they upset the defending champions and 15-1 Green Bay Packers 37-20, and they won a memorable overtime game in the conference championship against the San Francisco 49ers, by a score of 20-17. They may not have won the game without 2 fumbled punts by 49ers return man Kyle Williams.

No one is sure how the game will turn out; as NFL fans we hope that it will be as memorable as the last time these two teams met in the Super Bowl.

Is Tim Tebow “the chosen one?”

Is Tim Tebow “the chosen one?”After Tim Tebow led his team to yet another fourth quarter comeback against the Chicago Bears, many people started to refer to him as “The chosen one,” but after the Broncos lost to The New England Patriots by 18 points yesterday, many people are saying that Tim Tebow is a fluke. So the question is, is Tim Tebow really “the chosen one.”

If you asked 100 people this question, I bet that about 50 would say yes, and about 50 would say no. Although he has led his team to 7 victories in 9 starts, I say for right now that the answer to this question is no. I say this because he has not shown that he can play at his top level for a full four quarter game. He has also not shown any sign that he can compete with the best teams in the league such as the New England Patriots, who they lost to by 18 points yesterday. Another reason that he is not the chosen one is because he has not won a super bowl yet. In every sport, you are never considered amongst the best, until you get a championship ring, so I think that if Tebow wins the championship this year, he will be the chosen one.

Is Tim Tebow “the chosen one?”Now, onto a different subject, many people have become addicted to the topic of “Tebowing,” what is Tebowing? The definition of the word is, To get down on a knee and start praying, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different. This has become not only a phenomenon in Denver, but it has spread all across the country, and even across the world. I don’t know why this has become such a popular thing, but I do know how it started. Every time, that Tim Tebow gets a touchdown or does something good for his team, he gets down on a knee and starts “Tebowing.”

Is Tim Tebow “the chosen one?”I think that the only reason that Tebow has become such a hot topic, in the USA, and across the world is because he is a different kind of player than we are used to seeing. When have you ever seen a white quarterback, like Tebow, be able to run as fast and take as much punishment as he can? I don’t think that there has ever been anything like it before. People always want different types of players at every position in every sport, for example, if there were 32 Tom Brady’s, or 32 Drew Brees’s in the NFL, the league would be very boring. That is why you need players like Michael Vick, and of course Tim Tebow, because they bring excitement to the league. So, for right now I would say that Tim Tebow is not the chosen one yet, but he very well could be in the near future.

Who will be in the college football national championship game?

Who will be in the college football national championship gameWith the college football regular season coming to a close, the question that always presents itself is back yet again, “who will be in the college football national championship game?” Anyone that watches college football knows that LSU has been the best team in the country all year, and will be competing for the national championship game. They are the only undefeated team in the whole country, and they have some very impressive wins against teams like Oregon, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Auburn all top 25 teams and even a few top 10 teams.

The only question that remains is who they will be playing against. The two teams that have the best chaWho will be in the college football national championship gamence to get into this game are Alabama and Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State has some very impressive stats this year. They have scored 592 total points, which comes out to a little over 49 points per game. They have also only given up a total of 310 points which Is about 26 points per game. They have some very impressive wins over teams like Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech. The only setback that they suffered was a heartbreaking defeat against the Iowa State Cyclones. If it wasn’t for this they would be in the national championship game. Another reason that you can argue that Oklahoma State should be in the national championship game over Alabama is because they won the big 12 conference championship, and Alabama didn’t even play for their conference title.

Alabama on the other hand has also put up some very impressive stats. They have a substantially worse offense at only 39 points per game, but a much better defense giving up only 8 points per game. Some noticeable wins are against teams like Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn, which are some of the other best teams in the nation. Alabama also suffered a tough loss against No. 1 LSU. Many may argue that since they lost to a much better team they should be in, but many others don’t feel that way.

A lot of people are saying that Alabama has had a much better season than Oklahoma State, but after reviewing the numbers, OSU looks like they have been just as good, if not better than Alabama. Also, when LSU beat Alabama, they beat them 9-6. I know that a lot of people, including myself do not want to see a 9-6 BCS national championship game. I personally would much rather see the high powered offense of OSU go up against LSU, but either way we will see a great finale to the college football season.

But who do you think will be in the college football national championship game?

Please share your opinion here on this sport report poll! Thank you for reading another great post by one of the sport report’s most famous authors Ryan Veguilla.

Boston Red Sox New Manager- Bobby Valentine!

Well gBobby Valentineood morning everyone I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! And today is December first which means that Christmas Day is right around the corner. But don’t forget tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. That’s right. Tomorrow is the day the Red Sox officially announce the hiring and signing of their new manager Bobby Valentine. The reaction has been mixed in the Boston area as people wonder if Valentine will be the savior of a once recently proud franchise that just had a 7-20 September a record of which no team has ever held a lead as large as they did at the time of the year and failed to make the playoffs. So who is Bobby Valentine? No he is not a casino owner in Foxwoods…not hardly.

Bobby Valentine most recently has been an analyst for ESPN and his remarks and analysis of teams and players through the years have been highly regarded by his peers. He seems to be a very knowledgeable person when it comes to talking…but can he coach? Well let’s look over his career first. After winning a minor league MVP in 1968, he was called up to the Los Angeles Dodgers. A major league average of 260…not eye popping. 441 career hits…not Hall of Fame material. Valentine made the Dodgers out of Spring training in 1971, and batted .249 with one home run and 25 runs batted in. The following season, he managed to play in 119 games by playing many different positions—including shortstop, second base, third and all three outfield positions. His batting average improved to .274 in 1972, but he was not showing his early promise as a major leagues player, and following the season, he was packaged in a trade along with Frank Robinson. After a stint with the Angles where he was just mediocre, he was traded to the Padres in 1975. Valentine only appeared in 66 games for the Padres when he was part of New York’s infamous “Saturday Night Massacre.” On June 15, 1977, the New York Mets traded Dave Kingman to the San Diego Padres for minor league pitcher Paul Siebert and Valentine, sent Tom Seaver to the Cincinnati Reds for Pat Zachry, Doug Flynn, Steve Henderson and Dan Norman, and Mike Phillips to the St. Louis Cardinals for Joel Youngblood. As his role diminished with the Mets he was released and signed with the Seattle Mariners and eventually retired in 1979 at the age of 29.

In 2002 he won the Branch Rickey Award given annually to a Major League Baseball player in recognition of his exceptional community service. Not

a bad achievement. How about his former managerial record? Well, with the Texas Rangers and New York Mets and the Chiba Lotte Marines was 1,117 wins and 1, 1072 losses for a .510 winning percentage. Again not coach of the year material but not a loser! He was once fired from Texas by Mr. George W Bush, former president. Sweet.

But what about his Japan managerial career? On October 17, 2005, he led the Marines to their first Pacific League pennant in 31 years after emerging victorious in a close playoff with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. Nine days later on October 26, the Marines won the Japan Series in a four game sweep of the Hanshin Tigers for the first time since 1974. Not bad.

But today is today we are talking about the Boston Red Sox here…OUR team! With all of the locker room politics coming out after Terry Francona’s firing this team will be closely scrutinized especially in the upcoming season. Who will go? Who will stay? He seems to deal well with playes and the media, but has a reputation of conflict with other coaches and higher management. Is that a good thing especially in Boston where there is already managerial tension with several different owners? How will he manage? National league style? Japaneese style? Well my friends while you’re waiting for Spring Training Day which falls a few days after Valentine’s Day which we all will start thinking about shortly after Christmas Day and then New Year’s day just remember this. If it’s a bad year for the Sox, Valentine’s Day will soon be remembered as…The Valentine’s Day Massacre!

NBA Lockout Is Over!

NBA lockout is over

NBA lockout is over

There is great news for all of the NBA basketball fans all over the world, the NBA lockout is over. Finally after a long arduous lockout beginning just as the Mavericks took home the title last year, the players and owners have finally come to a tentative agreement. The season is supposedly going to kick off on Christmas. What a Christmas present for all NBA fans out there. They plan on only having 66 games this season for all team. I am just happy that we are going to have another great NBA season this year because the NBA lockout is over!

Now that the NBA lockout is over many people do not understand how the NBA lockout ended. First of all people must know how the NBA lockout started.  The NBA lockout was started because there was a disagreement on the overall budget between the players (and NBPA) and the owners of the teams. After months and months of negotiating and the media reporting on the lockout daily, people predicted that they would make a 50-50 split between the profits of the players side and the owners side.  But just a few weeks ago David Stern threatened that the last deal that the owners would try to push through be a lot more beneficial for the owners. Now just yesterday a tentative agreement was decided on after 149 days of disagreeing and a 15 hour meeting yesterday.  Here is a short video with David Stern the NBA commissioner talking about how this tentative agreement is going to go through and what is the future of the NBA this year.

The NBA has a lot of changes that has been made this season and there are many things we can look at. First off the budget plan for the NBA will change which can affect free agents, rookie signings, trades deals, hiring coaches, hiring staff, etc. although a collective bargaining agreement has not been decided on yet, according to David Stern they will decide on one within the next 30 days and put it in the place. Another thing people believe think that will impact the NBA lockout is over; because the lockout is over veteran players will have much better performances in the playoffs because there is 16 less games in the season. If you think about it this could be true because 16 NBA games can be very tiring on older players bodies and with less wear and tear on their body they could perform better in the playoffs.

Since the NBA lockout is over is going to affect many other aspects of the sports world other than the NBA.  With the NBA lockout over college basketball games are not going to get as much views.  While the lockout was going on, NBA fans got their basketball excitement from college games but now since the NBA lockout is over college games are getting a lot less views per game.  To go along with the college games in the NHL has also gotten more views and more game time slots and flexibility with their schedule because there is no NBA games taking up their arena time.  NHL views are predicted to go way down from what they currently were this season. To go along with this people were looking to watch other sports like soccer and tennis but now they have the good old NBA to watch! After months and months of negotiating after months and months of negotiating

Another thing people believe think that will impact the NBA lockout is over; because the lockout is over veteran players will have much better performances in the playoffs because there is 16 less games in the season. If you think about it this could be true because 16 NBA games can be very tiring on older player’s bodies and with less wear and tear on their body they could perform better in the playoffs.

I am so excited for this NBA season kickoff and I bet many other basketball fans out there excited also. For more information on sports please report to the sport report’s homepage. Thank God that the NBA lockout is over!

Is Lebron the Best Ever?

Lebron the best everThe question “is Lebron the best ever?” has been floating around the basketball world ever since Lebron James entered the league. He is probably one of the most athletic people on the planet and he has the skill set and basketball to back up his unreal athleticism.  Although there is a huge debate going on throughout the world if he is the best basketball player to ever play the game.

I believe and many people believe that Lebron is by far the best player in the NBA at the moment.  I would even go as far to say that he is the best player to play in the past 10 years. Nobody has combined skills like he does. He can pass, shoot, rebound, and he is among the top defenders in the NBA. But is Lebron the best ever?

I say no to that question right now for a couple of reasons.  First off Lebron is very skilled but he has been to the NBA finals twice and he has not taken home a ring yet.  The only thing that really matters in the public visions eye, when it comes down to it is who has the most rings on their fingers.  Some NBA players that are considered to be the best like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Bill Russell have all taken home NBA championsLebron the best everhips. Lebron is yet to take home a title.

Also the crazy basketball media is not a big fan of Lebron James in a general sense. The media seems to not like Lebron because he is so good.  Also when Michael Jordan played the immediate cannot stand him but 10 years after he retired everybody loved him and set out great he was.  I believe that in the media only bad news sells and that’s what they have to reporter Lebron . So what if Lebron had a bad series in the championships against the Mavericks. Yes it is bad crack in the finals but without him would the Heat even have made it to the championship series.  Also in the NBA finals series the heat’s bench scored the least amount of points a patch has ever scored in the NBA finals series.  They averaged about 14 points per game.  It must’ve been frustrating for Lebron and Wade with a horrific bench like this playing alongside them.

I think that is not even a question if Lebron James will ever win a championship because he will with the Heat team sometime in the next few years.  Lebron James is going to continue to grow as a player as he gains more and more experience and more and more skill. But what it really comes down to is if he can win multiple championships like Michael Jordan did and Larry the legend.

Lebron is definitely going to be a Hall of Famer just by having the amazing career he has had already. He has shocked the world by carrying the Cavaliers to the championship at age 22, going first to the NBA draft at the age of 17, he has several All-Star appearances and his numbers are off the charts but can he live up to be the greatest player to ever live? Is Lebron the best ever?

The sport report wants to know your opinion on this very controversial subject so please take the poll below and share your opinion if you think about the question “Is Lebron the best ever?”

Do you think Lebron is the best basketball player ever?
